A religious building. Hermitages are places of contemplation in which clergy or religious laypeople lead a secluded life of prayer in often secluded hermitages and chapels. They are named after hermits, who do not necessarily have to be religious and live in such buildings or in buildings at all. Hermitages can also be huts or small country houses.
